I captured this photo from my living room. On that morning while we were preparing our breakfast, it started to snow. The scene changed in couple of minutes in our surroundings. Yes, the scene changed and our mood as well. It turned out a warm, cosy breakfast table with a contrast of cold and snowy weather outside. Watching large snow flakes falling down and covering the nature like a blanket was my meditation of the day. Just letting my mind wandering and finding a quiet moment finally that I only felt the relief. It is rarely happening anymore in our loud world. In our inner and outer loud world.

The world is rushing us from home to work, to school, to unnecessarily complex relations, to being visible, to parenting, to act..to perform.
We have to perform! We should be productive, we should wake up at 5:30 am and there are always “5 ,7, 10 things” to be “a better version of ourselves”. Social Media is full of such advices which causes comparing ourselves with others who are obviously waking up at 5:30 am and having a super efficient and happy life.
Isn't it conflicting with our nature as human?
For a long time in history, people lived in harmony with movement of sun and the seasons. That was before “modern life” that we invented; that people moved to big cities and started working from 9 to 17 o’clock in offices. People who were living countryside and were still producing in farms, they had been living with the movement of sun and changing seasons.
They planted the seeds into the soil when the nature started to wake up in Spring from a long winter pause.
They started harvesting the first batch of the vegetables and fruits in Summer.
They dried the harvested vegetable& fruits’ seeds for next year in Fall.
They found ways to conserve the food to overcome the harsh Winters and mostly awaited the cold and dark days were over inside their warm nests.
Isn't it conflicting with our modern lives now?
I wish that I could live according to season changes, in a harmony with nature. Nevertheless, I am thankful that where I live, I can observe the nature is changing its clothes, its colour, its smell. I can see the beauty of each season and trying to enjoy what it offers. Even the most challenging season, Winter, here. I started, first, with accepting. Accepting that Winter here is mostly cloudy and grey. Accepting that the days are short. Some days are stormy. And accepting that I cannot change those as long as I am glad to live in that city with all others things that makes me happy. So, I do not fight with Windmills 🙂
So, my Wintering looks like that:
- I do not care whether it is dark early in the morning or afternoon, I just live according to hour.
- I find every year a new interest. But I do not do it really purposely. This is how I am since childhood. I like trying new things. Or getting bored and jumping to another interest 🙂
- I love being at home. Cosy (hyggelig with a trendy word:) ) with some coffee, tea (of course I try many different herbal & fruit tea)
- Well, despite Social Media and all other attention stealing apps & alerts around us, I am trying to bring my focus back to books. I visit library, spent time among books and explore.
- I am trying to stop my mind jumping from topic to topic..should I read a Roman or about Philosophy or Mythology or non-fiction..there are a lot to explore in that World 😀
- Discovering new trainings or courses..
Hibernating is another good option. It does not mean you should be in winter sleep during the entire season. Different animals have different hibernating routines. So just slow down and regulate yourself to survive another winter 🙂
